Why it is important to seal oil pastel ?
Don't do what I did in my early days, seal all your oil pastel works.
I made this work in 2023, when I was just starting out with Faber-Castell oil pastels. The hardness of the oil pastels didn’t put me off at all, in fact I didn’t know that oil pastels could be softer, creamier.
This work was made on washi paper, and I left it in the open air for a year, without using any fixative.

As a result, the colors are desaturated, the work has lost all its vitality and is full of dust. Fixative protects against UV rays, and it’s compulsory to use it when working with oil pastels, otherwise you risk making your collectors sad and angry.
All my works are sealed, so they won’t be afraid of light.
I loved this painting so much, and you know what, it’s becoming a study and I’m going to do it all over again with my creamy oil pastels.
