Painting apples and pears in our time

What to paint? what to show? another still life of an apple?

Is still life painting still relevant today? I mean, almost everything has been painted: apples, oranges, pears, grapes. Shouldn’t still lifes reflect our times a little more? Well, yes, fruit is timeless, but maybe that’s why I think it’s pointless to show this kind of still life. I always paint apples, to exercise my curves, but there’s no added value in showing an apple. I’ve done it in my oil pastel challenge with the banana and the peach, but I find that this type of still life is a training exercise.

So maybe I’m wrong, there’s an audience for everything after all, but I find that a still life of headphones, an electric scooter or a bibimbap is more in tune with the times!
