A small painting is still a painting

Paint large-format or small-format works?

adesane oil pastel art, painting large format

I’m currently creating a painting on a sheet 56 cm wide and 76 cm high, which is my largest creation to date. I’m used to paint small formats, and what works in a small format won’t necessarily work in a large one. But I took the risk – what’s the point of being an artist if I don’t try? I’ve almost finished it, and it’ll be ready for the art fair in Paris from September 27 to 29.

There’s this general thought that we all tell ourselves, “I’m not a painter because I only do small formats”.

It’s stupid.

It’s the same thing with filmmaking- I’m also a director-when you make short films, you present them as “small films”, and you belittle yourself, because “real” directors make feature-length films of at least 1h30.

It’s stupid.

So let’s say it once and for all: a short film is a film, a small-format painting is a painting.
