I sold 3 works of still life done in oil pastel
You never know in advance what will move people, so you have to paint whatever you like first.
I never thought when I first sold my work that my banana still lifes would sell so well. It’s a contradictory blog post with Painting apples and pears in our time , this blog is an extension of my brain, I put things forward one day, I try others another day and I can also see that my initial thoughts are not the same. I’d rather be wrong publicly than assert something without having tested it to the end.
It’s with still lifes that I experiment the most, it’s with still lifes that I look for color palettes, that I try out different strokes, that I try to place the light. I paint, forget and move on, but in the end, a work of art is still a work of art.
My absolute priority when I paint is life, joy and the warmth of color. We live in a very gray, very dark world where all designs, all architecture are similars, and bright colors are used less, everything is “conform”, everything is institutional, everything is gray, everything is straight line. Why is this? I don’t know, maybe it’s globalization, which pushes us to go fast, to simplify as much as possible, or maybe Google, which imposes its simplified design pattern. I want to detach myself from all that, I love life and color.
My last sale was this batch of bananas, which I was very, very happy with.
When I wanted to paint matcha lattes, I immediately thought of this palette I’d used, I love the combination of green and pink.
It’s during training that the hardest part is done, it’s during training that everything is played out.
